A quick introduction
How to use this app
Every beer at the festival, what it costs, which bar to walk to, and somewhere to keep track of what you have had.
Beers
The list every visitor lands on, grouped by bar so the beers near you are together. Tap any beer for its own page: what it costs in tokens, the brewery, the style and strength, and the bar and cask number to ask for.
A beer that has run out is greyed out and says Sold out. One waiting to go on says Coming up — worth knowing before you queue.
Finding one
The search box matches the beer, the brewery and the style, so “porter” and “Westerham” both work. The row of chips underneath filters to a single bar.
On a wider screen there is more: strength, brewery and style, a Sort by name, brewery, ABV or cask number, and a Group by that will arrange the list by bar, brewery, style, or by your own list.
Gluten free and Vegan filter to beers whose brewery has stated it. That is the brewery’s claim rather than ours and we cannot confirm it — and any beer nobody has given an answer for is hidden by those filters too, exactly like a no. The list says how many that is. If it matters, ask at the bar.
Your own list
Two buttons on every beer, and they do different jobs:
- Want to try. A shortlist for later. Build it while you are queueing.
- Had it. What you have drunk, with a count on the My List screen.
Both live on the My List tab, which keeps them in two lists you can switch between.
It stays on this phone. There is no account and nothing is sent anywhere — which also means it is not shared between your phone and anyone else’s, and clearing your browser data clears it. If you are browsing in private mode it will last only as long as the window.
Map
Where the bars are in the hall, so a cask number is enough to find the beer.
Sponsors
The local businesses who paid for the casks. Every beer page names its sponsor, and this is where they all are.
Info
Session times and age policy, getting here, food and music, and what the festival has raised. Tickets are through here too.
Paying
Beers are priced in tokens, and the number of tokens is on each beer’s page — a pint and a half where that is how it is sold, a third for anything strong enough to be poured in one, or a single price for a can or a bottle. Where a measure shows no price, that measure is not being sold.
Where tokens come from and what one is worth is on the Info screen.
Rather be shown?
The same introduction that runs the first time you open the app: a few pages about the festival and who puts it on, then a tour pointing at the real buttons. It takes about half a minute.
